Cardiology

Dr Fazal specialises in all aspects of adult cardiology, with particular interests in: Heart failure and cardiomyopathy Rhythm disorders, arrhythmias, and syncope Pacemaker and device therapy (pacemakers, ICDs, CRT-D) Investigation and management of breathlessness and chest pain Risk stratification and assessment for sudden cardiac death

Dr Fazal grew up in Nottingham and graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2002. He undertook early medical practice in Birmingham, Newcastle and Nottingham before commencing specialist cardiology training in Newcastle and Middlesbrough. He completed a period of research in the remote monitoring of pacemakers and defibrillators at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne. Sub-specialist training included advanced heart failure assessment, cardiac transplant assessment, rhythm disorders management and complex device therapy. Appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist in 2014, he has extensive experience in both general and specialist cardiology practice.

Dr Fazal has engaged in research activity related to cardiac rhythm management and remote device monitoring. His professional focus includes heart failure, arrhythmias and complex device therapy. He has published papers and contributed to educational activity in these areas.
Dr Fazal holds membership and accreditation from several professional bodies: Royal College of Physicians (MRCP (UK)) British Cardiovascular Society British Heart Rhythm Society (BHRS Devices accreditation) Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (FRCP (Edin)) In addition, he is Clinical Lead for Heart Failure and a cardiology education lead within his NHS trust.
