Ophthalmologists treat eye diseases and vision problems not correctable by glasses.
They diagnose and treat macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic eye disease. They also treat disorders of the eyelids for example infection, cysts and blemishes. Diagnosis is made by thorough ophthalmological examination using slit lamps and ophthalmoscopes. Other investigations may include blood tests, pressure studies and both MRI and CT scans. Familiar treatments include surgery, drops and laser.
